ft lauderdale - residents are waiting hours for the fuel to get out of its path. scott reassuring them supply is his top prioritygov. rick scott / (r) florida: "please take only what you need, we have got to be considerate of others so everybody can get out."as fuel tankers make their way into florida's ports to meet demand... smaller boats and cruise ships are heading out. at least one cruise company tells cnn it is using its vessel to evacuate employees to calmer waters. mayor philip levine / miami beach, fl: "this is a serious, serious storm. i've called it a nuclear hurricane."the mayor of miami beach is also sounding the alarm as ambulances at miami's mercy hospital stand ready to move the last of its patients out of harm's way. miami beach is now under mandatory evacuation orders but still, some residents are vowing to stay. (no name provided): "maybe its uh stupidity of the first class but nevertheless i want to stay home and i want to see if i can survive it." thousands more are heeding orders - crowding florida's airports and state highways as they flee their homes, not knowing what, they may come back to.

thanks in large part to cloudy conditions and lower 850 mb levels, temperatures have been much cooler today compared to yesterday. in fact, locations that were around 115 just a few days ago are struggling to get out of the lower 70s. in some spots today will turn out to be 15 degrees cooler than normal.

rescue teams have received the call and will be headed to florida to help with hurricane irma among the teams going...task force 3 in menlo park. 16 members of that team... returned to menlo park today... after spending a week in texas responding to hurricane harvey. but 30 minutes after they homethey were asked to send even more members...to go help with irma. (sot) (grant) over the next few hours team members will begin arriving and loading nearly 60- thousand pounds of gear on these semis which will be driven out to florida. (vicki) now p-g-&-e crews are heading to florida to help restore power to the area after hurricane irma hits the area this weekend. the national weather service says irma is set to hit

florida in the next couple of days. as part of a mutual aid agreement with the utility florida power and light...about 100 pg&e employees...line workers, equipment operators, supervisors and other personnel... are traveling to the sunshine state after the hurricane moves through the area. employees grabbed last minute items earlier today they had to pack in to a small bag...(sot) "with our safety devices of climbing up the poles and the hooks which we actually use to climb the poles, so there's going to be a lot of trucks and gear there in florida for us, but a lineman has to have his tools. some clothes, some rain gear and your basic safety stuff "(vicki) under the agreement, florida power and light will cover the costs of the support from pg&e. the agreement was signed three years ago - saying if there's a disaster in either place - the utility workers will help each other. this is the second time the agreement has been activated.

pg&e also sent help to florida last year -- after hurricane matthew. (vicki) people aren't the only ones getting out of florida... dozens of adoptable animals were evacuated from the shelters out there and were flown here to the bay area...(grant) this will help clear out the shelters in florida...so there's room for animals who are displaced during irma. kron four's gabe slate is in walnut creek... where some of these animals will be housed. 92 cats and 62 dogs arrived on the tarmac of the hayward airport this afternoon coming from broward county humane society in florida. the shelter there wants to be empty in preperation for all the displaced animals that may need help after hurricane irma. these dogs and cats will be separated between 3 shelters here the east bay spca, berkeley humane society, and at arf, or the animal rescue foundation in walnut creek. that's where i captured these images of the dogs and cats arriving thursday evening arf is taking in 40 cats and 25 dogs. broward

or birthdates. in the wrong hands that information can be used to steal someone's identity. i talked to a cyber security exper tthis afternoon that everyone should pay attention to what has happend with equifax. varun badhwar is the founder and ceo of redlock, a menlo park based cloud security company. he says that the hacking of equifax should concern almost every american, even if they have never personally used the company's services.soti think at some point almost every consumer has gone to equifax and pulled down a report. if you haven't directly, one of your banks of financial instates had.in the wake of the hack, he also warns there's not much consumers can do to be proactive about protecting themselves. its extremely hard, if not impossible, to change things like social security numbers, drivers license numbers or birthdates. he says the best people can do is to closely monitor their credit.sotmonitor credit activity. look for instances where you're seeing someone nefarious trying to open up accounts on your behalf because they have all the information required to do so.

equifax is offering free credit monitoring for year to anyone who's concerned that their information many have been compromised, but badwhar points out that that is something of a catch 22.sot youre going to have to go back to equifax and give them your information all over again and hope and trust that you don't lose it again.he also says that the size and scope of this hack should be a wake up call to how vulnerable our personal information is.sotif we can't trust credit monitoring service providers then i'm not sure who's left that our data is secure with. finally, it was also reported today equifax executices sold off millions of dollars in stock just days after the breech was discovered but more than a month before the hack was made public.in menlo park, charles clifford kron 4 news. captain with the oakland fire department has been arrested for possession of child pornography kron4 obtained this surveillance video of 58- year-old richard chew being arrested yesterday at his home on harper court in lafayette. chew was arraigned today in contra costa county superior court. he his facing one count of possesion and one count of distributing child pornography (vicki) back on august 19th the contra costa county internet crimes against children task force launched an investigation into chew's alleged involvement with child pornography. a search warrant was served at the oakland firefighter's home and where he worked at fire house number-15.

investigators say they found child porn on richard chew's computer and other storage devices. his bail has been set a $200-thousand- dollars (grant) a teen girl from the bay area...declared brain dead more than three years ago... may still be technically alive.... a judge in the east bay made that ruling earlier today... the ruling allows a lawsuit by jahi mcmath's family to move forward. they are suing children's hospital oakland for allegedly botching a routine tonsillectomy for the jahi--who was 13 at the time. the lawsuit also demands the hospital pay for jahi's future care... and demands a ruling be made that she is alive. the alameda county judge will leave that decision to a jury. if jurors rule in favor of jahi -- it could increase the amount of damages in the lawsuit. and staff in the pacifica school district are in mourning tonight after a freak accident killed a longtime music teacher and band leader. (vicki) kron4's maureen kelly went to ingrid b. lacy middle school where a memorial to the popular educator is growing. oceana high school students came back to their old middle school to comfort each other and pay respects to their former music teacher jerry downs. it was near here that the 15 year veteren of this district was somehow run over

by his own car. it happened at around 11am wednesday and some of his students who were in pe class at the time say they dit. the district has brought on extra grief counselors .should a student have seen something we'll be informed and able to help. it's my understanding the way the accident was situtated very little was seen.i'm told this memorial and a similar one a ocean shore elementary where down also taught music, sprang up sponstanously. students hung up homemade signs like this one saying we love you mr downs or this one which simply reads you were a good guy. they also put out sheet music, one left a drum stick.there are many pictures of downs with his students in their band uniforms.which i''m told he sometimes paid for with his own money..he was apparently a good poker player, and when he won, he made sure his students did too. one parent said the district will not be able to replace him.he was a really sweet guy he gave everything to this school it was sort of his life. the superintendent says they are going forward with back to school night here thursday night, out of respect to mr downs passion and dedication to his students.if i know jerry he would want us to move forward and for his music program to stay intact.plans for public memorial service are underway. maureen kelly kron4 news

(vicki)2 shot as kron four's will tran's reports... the folks from oakland are on their way...after having just helped in texas with the aftermath of hurricane harvey. no rest for the weary.most of the members from the search and rescue team just got back from hurricane harvey.they were told on tuesday to get back to workthis time for an even more powerful hurricane... irma(battalion chief robert lipp/fema- 1:00:04-11 when we gett to where they need us we will find out what they need us for. if it's rescue we will deal with people and pets. companion pets. sometimes it's more of wellness check.) as they're racing towards families in florida.. that also means they're leaving their families back in the bay area.they know this is what

(vicki) american airlines has canceled more than two thousand flights due to hurricane irma. operations are scheduled to wind down across south florida in the coming days. cancellations will go into effect for 15 airports... this includes miami, fort lauderdale, orlando, fort myers and west palm beach throughout the weekend. the the key west airport already halted flights last night. (grant) the heavy rain from hurricane harvey - actually caused the city of houston to sink. according to a geo-physicist - at california's institute of technology... the flooding was so widespread it actually "flexed the earth's crust"... and caused the city of houston to sink by two centimeters. however - the scientist says it's only temporary. once the floodwaters recede - there will be what's known as an

"opposite elastic response of the crust"... (vicki) the senate approves a package of bills that pairs emergency funding for hurricane relief... with measures that would raise the debt ceiling and keep the government open for another three months. president trump, in a surprising move, worked with democratic leaders to broker the deal. shocking republican leaders in the room, the president sided with democrrats... who proposed bundling the bills together ... the package includes about 22 billion dollars for fema's disaster relief fund -- 15 billion of which is new, emergency funds. another 6 plus billion was already slated to be in the spending measure that funds the government. the legislation now goes to the house. (grant) a woman in union city who says she was groped on a walking trail... has helped investigators develop a composite sketch of the suspect. the victim believes the man is hispanic or filipino.. and describes him as standing five-- seven, with a stocky build. he is accused of groping the woman about 6-30- monday morning. police say ... it happened on the union city walking trail, off union city boulevard near kohoutek (kuh-who-tech) way. police say, the woman was able to call 9-11 during the attack... and, it appears that spooked the man, who ran off. sgt. steve mendez/ucpd- "it was more of a groping than anything, um, he grabbed her upon her buttocks and other

parts of her body over the clothes. um, but, you know, in this particular situation, we're really not sure to what extent he was willing to go." (grant) sergeant (grant) sergeant mendez says, the victim claims this was actually the ninth time she has encountered the suspect on the same walking trail. and, each time, he approached her by saying "be my friend." but mendez says, this is the first time that the man ever laid a hand on the woman. (vicki) two sacramento police officers were shot in the line of duty. the shooting happened this morning - as police were trying to stop a vehicle that was being driven by a man wanted for a double homicide. the suspect looked like he was listening to the officers... as he pulled to the side of the road, throwing his keys out the window. but moments later he got out and started shooting. one officer was shot in the chest, but the bullet ricocheted off his bullet-proof vest. the other officer was hit in the leg. both are expected to survive. the suspect was

shot and killed. the shootout happened as hundreds of law enforcement officers were attending the memorial service for sacramento county sheriff's deputy robert french, who was killed in a shootout last week. aveson.(pam) and i'm pam moore. welcome to kron four news at ten. the credit reporting company says, the breach compromised the personal information of nearly half the people in the country. cyber -criminals accessed sensitive information.... including social security numbers, birth dates and addresses. equifax says, credit card numbers for about 209- thousand u-s customers were exposed. the breach happened from mid-may through july 20-17... but was just made public now. (steve) tonight we have learned three equifax executives sold stock right after the company learned about the breach. kron 4's charles clifford is live tonight in menlo park... and charles you talked to a cyber security expert there today who says this hack is alarming on many levels. yes, it's been reported that the security breech was discoverd in july and in early august 3 equifax
